Do you have a go-to movie that shifts you out of a funk?
I have a few:
Classics:
Penguins of Madagascar since the pandemic hit. My partner knows more lines from this movie than me, and it’s always fun to rewatch and find new lines to throw at each other.
Secretariat : Most interesting experience when energetics beam with the most blissful state during Secretariat’s living the life of purpose - when he’s set free to be.
Recent: Soul | Gran Turismo | Bank of Dave
And as it happens, one of my meditations gave me a distinction between what I want and need. What I want, I generally get or find easily. What I need, now that is a different story. Not the physical needs of food, water, shelter, etc. The way I define my needs are the essential energy that motivates me to continue living each day. And apparently, I had a belief hidden in my psyche about not being able to get what I need.
Courtesy of my upbringing and cultural norms in Japan that focused on being useful to the whole rather than to the self. In the moment I released the belief, I felt something in my head snap and release.
I also remembered seeing “Want vs Need” on Youtube, so I went searching for clarity. And here’s what I found:
Pixar: I love you.
Narratives told in the form of movies subconsciously or consciously poke deep into the recesses of our mind. And when consciously exercised, it unlocks the understanding that frees me from limiting beliefs.
Now, you might find these in the language of books and written word; or a friend telling you something that you needed to hear when you were open to listening. For me, it’s the images - witnessing something external to me in nature. When I trip over a tiny rock when I’m ruminating over something that really isn’t mind to solve. Or seeing the sacred animals show up when I’m holding a high frequency of feeling at peace.
What’s your modality of finding clarity between your needs and wants?
